Pulling the Trigger, 2017 is a continuous project to investigate how people emotion would be driven by pictorial impact. The series of three images depict a collective of antique glass wares. Each vessel contains specifically arranged items. Together with the monotone and harmonious colour tone, it presents a narrative depiction of the object. Upon the view of the audiences, a minimal abnormal condition will be discovered. These little details are often beyond audiences’ perception. It stimulates audiences to question or trigger a desire to amend the unsettled elements in the image. Pulling a trigger seems to be a very simple and easy act, and it is easy to be tempted to do so, but the cause could be enormous and destructive.

Pulling the Trigger 01 is inspired by psychology of consuming behavior. According to studies, consumers sometimes are driven to consume. There are psychological urge to fulfill some mental deficiencies, for example, under depression or anxiety. People under stress, perhaps from work, would go shopping in order to relief from the daily pressure. This often leads to the purchase of unnecessary commodities. The thin hair is the trigger which viewers are incited to pull it out as if there are some psychological unsettlements to be sedated.

While I was further studying the phenomenon of over consumption, I watched a documentary The True Cost (2015). In the documentary, 250,000 cotton farmers commit suicide in the last 16 years in India. The huge demand in the fast fashion industry brings up the situation that the seeds & fertilizers manufacturers exploiting the eagerness of rapid cotton growth to satisfy the big cheap fashion companies. But at the end the promises never delivered, on contrary, the lands were ruined due to the damaged caused by the fertilizers. In “Pulling the Trigger 02”, cotton were grown from flesh.

Apart from the cotton farm industry, cheap and under aged labours ware work in poor condition, plants with no safety precaution. Human lives as well as the natural environment were disregarded. By pushing the protruding pin in “Pulling the Trigger 03”, aggravate the bleeding that had been happening. The uneven level of the pin signifies the intense feeling arouse you to shop that need to be contented with by pushing it down. The further the pin had been inserted the more destruction will be made.
